Whats that emerging from the Warp?

So its been a while since I've posted and I have done a whole lot of nothing related to any modelling and painting since my last post....until today. Acquired one of my mates cans of chaos black basecoat and started on touching up the missed bits on my Terminators as well as coating my Raptors.

One of the things I've been up to is brainstorming about a map-based campaign. One of my friends mentioned that he and another friend have been thinking about doing a new 40K Campaign for our social circle. I've been trying to find a proper map to depict the planet we land on; one freshly emerged from the Warp that has drawn our armies there.

So far I managed to whip up a test map with a Hexagon Grid overlay, and I'm trying to work out how to run a map based campaign that allows for base-building as a game component.

More later, right now I'll go trim some more old school Rhinos and assemble some stuff I've had lying about.

Death from Above

This inspired me greatly when it came to making Raptors, in all truth what I've heard about any of the Fast Attack choices is that they are not really worth their weight in points in an Army List. Then again I tend to play for fun and they looked awesome so why not give it a go.

I didnt go for the Death Guard conversion bits from Forgeworld like they did, instead I opted to use a regular chaos marine squad for a base and go from there. The Jump Packs made by MaxMini capture a more archaic feel than the regular Space Marine jump packs, and besides who doesn't want troops wearing big Turbines on their backs.

Beyond this I've carried on basecoating, layering and washing troops, I did run out of Basecoat however and apparently there is none to be found in all the lands.... So my Raptors will have to wait for a bit as I work on the remaining Terminators, Marines and Rhinos. Can't say that I am in a hurry however.

On an unrelated note there has been some talk amongst my mates of perhaps running a small campaign of sorts. Hells yes! I'll do my best to infect as many as I can...with eagerness.

The Forces of Chaos

My current army of models

1 Typhus
1 Demon Prince of Nurgle (Winged)
42 Chaos Space Marines
14 Plague Marines
5 Lightning Clawed Assault Terminators
10 Terminators
2 Nurgle Dreadnoughts

2 Death Guard Rhinos

1 Death Guard Land Raider

1 Plague Hulk (Defiler)

Work in Progress, also note that due to the use of Forgeworld bits so far each and every Chaos Space Marine assembled can double for a Plague Marine model.

1 Epidimus (Possible Sorcerer)
2 Chaos Dreadnoughts
6 Rhinos (Second Hand)
10 Chaos Raptors (Using MaxMini Jump Packs)
5 Chaos Marines that can be assembled as anything really.

A lot of painting is still required and I do want to get my hands on some Obliterators as well as a Second Daemon Prince, though once I get my Bit Box dug up I might try to convert one.

...Emerged from the Warp

As the remnants of my Chaos army were nowhere near sufficient to field a suitable threat to the Imperium of Man, a distress signal was sent out to call for reinforcements. Or basically I spent my hard earned money to acquire more models. It was at this point that I actually decided to go for Death Guard and to make sure I made Papa Nurgle proud.

Added to my Army:

25 Chaos Space Marines
5 Chaos Marine Havocs
10 Terminators (5 of which are metal)
2 Rhinos
1 Land Raiders
2 Dreadnoughts
2 Nurgle Dreadnoughts
1 Plague Hulk (or Nurgle Defiler)
1 Nurgle Daemon Prince
1 Typhus
14 Plague Marines

After considerations I added another box of Loyalist Assault Terminators to the mix so that I can field 5 Death Guard Terminators with Lightning Claws. In addition to the above I also made sure to order in Death Guard conversion kits for a total of 20 Chaos Marines, 10 Terminators (then realizing I only had 5 plastic ones, hence the Assault Terminators), 2 Rhinos and 1 Land Raider.
I've spread the shoulderpads around to make sure that all models have Death Guard shoulders in one form or another. I'm also quite aware that im drowning in Dreadnoughts thats due to the fact I picked up two Chaos Dreadnoughts and then came across the beautiful (if thats even applicable) Nurgle Dreadnought.

Not all models were kept as they were, the Havocs became regular marines for instance, i'll drop a definitive listing of what makes up my army next time.

Which will feature additional Rhinos (second hand and in need of a lot of work), as well as Raptors based off of this model which I think looks well ace.

Remains of a bygone era...

(Or the models I came across while moving)

I'll list all the models I recovered of my once 'proud' Chaos Space Marine army. Ill also include a minor listing of the ones that have fallen and become lost in the Warp. Take in mind that I have started on assembling, painting and repurposing many of these models so this is not a definitive listing.

Recovered:

2 Chaos Lords (1 Terminator)
1 Fabius Bile
2 Chaos Sorcerers
3 Noise Marines
1 Heavy Weapon Marine (Heavy Bolter)
5 Khorne Bezerkers
1 Chaos Raptor Champion
14 Chaos Space Marines

Lost to the Warp:

1 Chaos Dreadnought
?? Chaos Marines
6 Chaos Bikers
?? Plague Marines
1 Great Unclean One
2 Daemon Princes (Old Models)
3 Obliterators (Old Models)
?? Khorne Bezerkers

Also found are remnants of Eldar, Tau, Tyranid, Imperial Guard and Loyalist Marine armies / models. Of course plans are already made to make the Loyalists into a Traitor Chapter without too many obvious Chaos influences so I can field them as either Loyalists or Traitors and Chaos reinforcements. The Imperial Guard are destined to be Traitors. I sense Blood Guard in the making, the reddish colors should make a nice contrast to my green Death Guard. Just means I need to find a third color scheme for my Loyal Traitors.
